When my kids weren't in school full time, it was more difficult to schedule our day and of course, the time with them. The balance could be frustrating!

What helped me was to have a job with flexible hours and then planned out my week based on the home stuff first (appts, school, lunch etc.). Then I could fit the work hours in the windows of time that worked best for me. Another thing I did was get up an hour earlier to get the busy/must do stuff for work done before my kids were up. And our mornings were such that they were slow to wake up so they would watch cartoons & eat breakfast for awhile, so that also allowed me some more time to fit work in.

One of the good things about work from home is they have a lot of options where you can pick a flexible schedule. Lots of places require a certain number of hours or "tasks" but leave the "when" up to you as long as it gets done and by their deadline.

You CAN do it...
