Default A Mom's Rants/ What Is Going On????

Hello,
Last night my family and I were out to dinner at a family pizza place. There was a family sitting near us, first off the pre-teen girl was brushing her long (dirty) hair at the table, secondly they had 3 boys (which were probably 10 and under) and 2 of them had piereced ears. Not just little posts, but 1/2 inch hoops, and one of them had a bar in the top of his ear (ouch!). Needless to say Dad had them too, plus a tattoo on his neck.
My second grade son mentioned to me that his second grade buddy watches Glee. I've never had the pleasure of watching Glee, but I have heard that it is an adult show.
Dressing my 2nd grade daughter can be a challenge, especially since summer is coming. Have you seen the short shorts 'they' are selling. Who designed these, perverts? Not to mention the jeggings, which she has and we make her wear a very long shirt over them, like you would tights, because that's what they are. And the worst of the worst, our daughter is pretty average in weight and a little on the short side, finding jeans that don't show the top of her rear end are almost impossible to find. Look out when she crouches or bends over . I don't even think plumbers like when this happens to them, why would little girls??
Do 2nd graders need cell phones??? I don't think so. This makes me want to barf. If you are letting your 2nd grader (and 10 year olds and below) walk around freely outside, where he/she might be in danger enough to need one you are nuts anyway. Kids are usually at home,on the bus, at school, friends house, practice or game. And should be supervised, if your kid is going somewhere where he/she needs their own cell phone they probably shouldn't go.
I'm not a prude, politically I'm an Independent, middle of the road type. But what the heck is going on with peoples morals and values?? I know my husband and I have made some mistakes, for instance our kids have watched some tv programs that they aren't allowed to watch anymore, and yes they were on the popular 'kids' networks. We've made mistakes and I am sure we'll make more. But when we realize that we are off or decide this isn't good for our kids we will not be afraid or too lazy to say that we were wrong and correct the situation. We've gone from a society that children were not allowed to speak if not spoken to to children ruling the roost, crazy isn't it? Somewhere in the middle is where I want to be as a parent, because I am the parent and my job is to guide our children into being moral responsible adults.

Yay for you mom, I totally agree. I'm on the almost finished end of things with mine, but with every generation the same complaints are still in style....the clothes getting more adult, the tv shows getting more adult (AbC FAMILY channel???? are you kidding me, have you seen these "family shows"???) It will only get worse like the labor pains of birth. Teach your children they are in this world and not of this world. Also let them know you can take them out of this world if they don't like it. Take them to church because your kids need a good foundation when they go out to do battle every day against the worldly beliefs out there, it will get worse once outside of elementary school. I'm not bothered by earrings and tattoos, unless they are vulgar, I'd be more concerned with their morals and how they treat others. As for the cell phone thing, thats just idolatry, its the parents way of saying we are so good we can throw a couple hundred dollars away on a phone that will get lost or broken, to many parents, their children are just idols being displayed, through their clothing, their ability to get noticed, etc.
