Default babies, toddlers, and tantrums?

do you have a tantrummer? my baby is 16 months old...he has been tantrumming for quite some time now. and i still laugh EVERY time. they are so funny. first he throws his hand at you like he's hitting and he yells, then he crosses his arms and turns his whole body away from you, he looks back, if you don't seem to care, he then throws himself on the ground HARD, and looks back again, if you still don't care, he gets up, and walks off...and goes to play. lol. what a funny kid!

what does your kid do?

he FOLLOWED you? lol! that is hysterical! i am sure that these won't be funny if they are doing them as teenagers...but it IS funny now. As a matter of fact, my teenager threw a tantrum a few weeks back, and she has informed me recently it "hurts her feelings" that i called it a tantrum....she'd prefer for me to say "she had an attitude." whatever i call it, as a teen, NOT cute...as a baby....cute as a button.

Caitlin has tantrums. Drives me crazy. I have now learned--put her in a cart or stroller when in a store, period! She is very strong willed and will throw herself on the ground at the store and scream her head off! She has tantrums at home too but they don't seem as bad since I can just walk away from her (she follows me screaming sometimes, we have a circle you can walk in our apartment and I just walk her in circles till she stops). I just recently bought the happiest toddler book, hoping it will help!

Tantrums are actually signs of frustration. I would be cautious when laughing at the tantrum as this could escalate into more unwanted behavior. My boy threw tantrums and believe me there was nothing funny about it. We ignored it and did not give in. Soon enough, he figured out tantrums were not working and they stopped.

That's true. I love see babies doing things out of their minds they let their self get hurt because of their attitude but it is normal for a baby like them. Everything that a baby does that will make you mad at them it will turn to happiness because of their cuteness.

After many attempts to fight tantrums of my 2-year-old daughter I consulted a neurologist, and she recommended to give the child some medicine. It must be due to the fact that the neurologic system of the child is not developed enough. It should be noted that I mean unreasonable tantrums like the demand to be fed by Granny when Granny is away. And you know it really helped: she began to sleep well and stopped crying when sleeping, she is now able to listen to explanations.

Besides, the doctor said that the tantrums were the result of the fact that I got back to work for a while and had to leave her with Grannies, and then a new baby was born in our family, and the daughter got jealous and had a visible regression in her behaviour.

They are definitely frustration. I've found that the best way to avoid them is to say "use your words" even though he only knows a few. He'll then start signing "please, please" or "help" and I'm able to talk through whatever he needs. If you start giving them words to express their needs and wants now, it will be easier later. Toddlers understand more than they can communicate. That causes a hang up for them because they know what they need, but they don't have a clue how to express it to their parents. (We have very few tantrums since I started talking him through things. Maybe once a week. He's 16 months old.)
