Angry Any ideas on how to make my 7 year old sleep through the night?

Hello,
Since the beginning we have had alot of problems getting my son to sleep properly. Some nights he is a perfect sleeper but we are still experiencing the wake up crying around 2:00am-4:30am a few times a week. He goes to bed and falls asleep within usually half hour. Falling asleep is not the problem. He does not watch t.v before bed, he does not play video games before bed. We read books sometimes before bed. We go swimming later on at night to see if that will help him sleep better. We have tried going to bed later....nope nothing seems to be working. He says he cannot sleep. He cries. He does not know what wakes him up. My 10 year old daughter did not have this problem! Any help would be appreciated!

Two thoughts. First, I would try having him go to bed earlier instead of later. I am a firm believer in the philosophy that 'Sleep begats sleep' and am wondering if he is overtired and not able to stay asleep. I would also skip the swimming in the evening to give him more time to wind down. Second, you might try a small dose of Melatonin. I find that it really helps my son with insomnia.

Good luck!

Keep track of what he ate for dinner when he couldnt sleep. Especially sugar. Maybe you find something to avoid.
