Default Internet Security for young kids .

My son is nine years old and I want to him internet savvy. I want him to familiarize himself with internet operations as knowledge of the internet is a must these days. And I think he is in the right age for this. But I am also aware of the hazards of internet usage and would like to safeguard my child from them. Is this possible?

There are several Anti-Virus and Internet browsers that offer parental controls when operating them. Upon initial instillation, set these parental controls, that way, if your son happens to stumble upon a website that is deemed "Dangerous" by the Anti-Virus software or the Internet browser, the website will be blocked.

My daughter who is only four is very internet savvy already! What I do is I set the computer in the living room where anyone can see what she is browsing so we could monitor her and I am always working near here as well. I wonder what she'll know in the internet comes her teen years so I am really very wary.

Hi Everyone! I have done a little research on this topic since I to want to keep my family safe from all the internet concerns. It can be a great place to learn but it can come with a hefty price if we as parents are not careful. I keep my computer in the family room so I can keep an eye on the use. I decided to try a program called Saavi Accountability because it doesn't block websites but it does allow me to control what my family is viewing and it gives me a list of sites they have visited and videos they are watching etc. If they go on a website I put in as inappropriate it sends me a text message right away so I can confront the problem. I am trying to teach the family how to be responsible on the internet because I am not always there. When they are at the library, their friends houses, etc I have to trust they are being responsible and safe.
This is a tough problem and I appreciate there are other parents out there that are struggling with the same thing! Thank you for all the other sites suggested. I plan to look them over as well!

You can always check internet history. Tell him that you're gonna do that. Also, tell him that you would know the login time. It will keep him within bounds. Also, don't force your son. Let him develop the interest.
