Default How do you manage family meals?

We've gotten out of the habit of having meals each night as a family and I'd like to get back to doing that.

Do you manage family meal time? If so, how do you do it?

Our nights are hectic and exhausting as they are...the thought of having to plan and prepare meals each night and sit down as a family almost gives me hives.

What had you been doing? Since getting out of the habit, what have you been eating as a family?

I don't have any kids yet (That changes in July) but my DH and I have had this issue. On days when we are both working, we carpool. By the time we get home, I am starving and need to eat RIGHT THIS SECOND!!! We have worked some with this by stopping at the store and grabbing something little like a granola bar or a banana or whatever. That tides me over until we get home and can cook something. Sad thing is that we often just have a frozen pizza or mac n cheese. We work on having healthier meals on the days when we are not working at the same time. (I work from home one day a week and have three day weekends, so we eat propper meals at the table on those days.)

Sorry I don't really have any good suggestions...

We have the same issue too. My son is only 14 months, but we still rarely eat as a family. I work Mon-Thur and don't get home til 6:30 and that's when Brady eats, then we eat, since our dinner takes longer to prepare. I LOVE home cooked meals, that's the way I was raised, my Mom had dinner on the table every night. But we seem to do a lot of take out lately, like Pizza or Chinese. It's just easier sometimes. The weekends I have more time to prepare, so we do try do dinner together on those nights.

I guess when my son, Brady, gets a little older I'll be more strict about eating as a family, which we should, I believe it sets good morals and routine for a child. But until then, it'll remain what it is!!

Even though we're all pretty busy in my family, we've made it a point to eat dinner together 5 out of 7 nights a week. It really helps us stay close with our kids, and I'm lucky because my husband does all the cooking!!

I am a work-at-home-mom too and got an extra hand to prepare dinner hence; I make sure that I leave work when DH arrives so we could catch up on talking over dinner.

Hi Everyone!

I am new to this forum as well.

Both my husband and I work full time. I start to work at 4am and get home about 12pm. My husband works from 9am until 6pm. Children are 18 & 19 yrs old (intl adopted 4 yrs ago), and they usually have activities after school & do not get home until around 5-6pm. I need to be in bed by 730-8pm. Family meals are next to impossible but we do try. We have found that cooking a large portion of a main course, such as a pot roast with carrots & potatoes, etc in it, works well for us. We can serve the roast the first meal, second meal we can pull the roast apart and have roast beef sandwiches (like Arbys), and make different side dishes like frozen vegetables, third meal we use roast & veges that remain for vegetable soup. I like to serve baked potatoes or a salad with the soup (these can be prepared on weekend then reheated). We also use a crock pot. Doing most of the cooking on the weekend works well for us! Life is hard sometimes!!

Default Manage daily routine

Hi friends,

Women are very capable of multitasking but what you have to do is that prepare your daily routine and prioritized your work from most important to least important things. Just go for basic preparation during the weekends that can make it easy for you to make the meals when you return tired from a long and hectic day at work.
